In your #1 example, if the frame was damaged, and the tag was added to another later truck, then I would agree with you. But if the frame survived (the only other location for the number) then the truck could be rebuilt with another super early cab and made to match every detail of the original.

This would be the same as bringing a 68 Hemi Dart back from falling off a trailer at 80mph and being worse then dead. As long as it was original once, it can be again with enough work.

I have heard of rare Muscle cars being brought back from little more then a cowl, core support, and tags, how is a frame and tag much different?
