Well...don't take this personally but, 90% of off road driveability is the driver. Experience pays. When I read your post the first thing that jumped out at me was "buried to the axles". Unless you drove into 4, 12" deep holes simultaneously, you were stuck LONG BEFORE, you got that deep. Not getting stuck is a "feel" for when you have traction and when you don't. Also having the knowledge to stop spinning those tires when there is no forward progress is a big key. The biggest detriment to successful off roading is that right foot. If your getting stuck, that throttle will just get you stuck faster. Very seldom will more digging and spinning free your rig.
Does your truck have a traction device? Is your truck 4 WD? Several things that help a Dodge function better than other trucks is the gearing, weight distribution, spring rating and rigidity. Any vehicle can go about anywhere if it mimics the Dodge wheel base, and weight distribution, has adequate gearing and tires and has an experienced driver.
