I don't see why not. Lots of 3/4 & 1Ton trucks out there towing well over 20,000lbs so 10,000 lbs from a 1/2T truck wouldn't be impossible provided the tires were rated to handle the tongue weight & the trailer had adequate brake & axle capability.
Think about it...the big highway trucks load weighs WAY more than the tractor weighs.
It just depends how the Toyota is designed but knowing Toyota...if they say it will safely tow 10K lbs...I imagine it's probably tested with a HUGE safety margine before they'd ever advertise that.
