If you plan to use octane fuel above 70, then timing should be 2 degres BTDC using #1 cylinder. When you intall the distributor, place the lock plate over the hold down screw and position the rotor pointing at 7 o'clock, then push the distributor down rocking the rotor back and forth to engage the cam gear. Final rotor position will point more at 9 o'clock. Gap points at .025
