in light of the debate, disagreement, whatever i never got an answer to my question as to why a mopar electronic distributor is better than a stock distributor with a pertronix kit in it. i did some online research to see if there were any advantages to the electronic kit and i came up empty except that if your distributor is bad (worn) the kit might be a good way to replace the old dist and update the points to electronic. reviewing comments from those who have done the conversions (both kinds) reveal that the electronic mopar units are sensitive to heat (especially around headers) and fail unexpectedly. many user have switched back to points after they were left dead on the road. in additon, the dist that comes with the kit often needs to be adjusted with regards to vacuum advance and to weights & springs and the engines power curve. when you throw in a ballast resistor, a box that you have to ground, not addressing the coil and extra wires, i dont see any benefit in choosing mopar over pertronix. the pertronix is 2 parts, 2 wires and when combined with a new coil almost foolproof. not sensitive to vibration, heat, moisture, etc. the ignitor II offers more performance than the ignitor 1 and will take up to a 60,000 volt coil. a 30 mth warranty is provided. the mopar conversion guys often mount two of the control boxes on the firewall so when one fails they switch the harness and keep going. when i asked my orig question i stated i was willing to learn. i still am. as stated before, im not looking for cheap and i'm open to any thoughts.

thanks,

mannyc
