Your right on that if the engine can produse the needed HP at the lower RPMs it is better to do it that way. This is why I used a 100 HP Engine to run my required 50 HP Generator Head. I can run the engine at 1500 RPMs instead of full open at 2500 rpms(rated 100hp @ 2500 rpms). The engine will last longer and run cooler. I had to use a belt system to make the Generator run at 1800 RPMs but then a 50+HP Direct Drive Coupler is not cheap either. I had the belts and one of the pulleys. The other Double C-Belt 8" Pulley was $183.00 to go on the 2 3/8" Shaft on the generator Head!! Mark H.
