john, i've done a lot of sandblasting of sheetmetal parts. you are on the right track about not staying in one spot too long. i would also like to add that you should turn down the regulator to no more than 75 or 80 psi. you could also blast at an angle not straight on. maybe even stip as much paint and rust off with a d/a sander before blasting.to minimize the blasting required. good luck with your project, jim.
