... and I had the same thought. I'm not quite willing to hook up the juice on a theory, though. I did find a very good article on constructing a voltage regulator for 6V>12V systems, so hopefully I won't blow the gas guage to the moon like someone did to the Ammeter - the entire pin was evidently vaporized, and there is actual blast damage on the guage armature - nice work.
