From the way I read it, the earlier pre war OD had a different dye that didn't last and faded quick. Pre WW I, the army went from the blue's to kakai, but that went to OD during or soon after that war. Mid 30's, the army went all OD.

Now I am basing this on what I've read (and seen and heard) and am by no means an expert. I just find it humorous how some folk get all upset and almost (and probably have in some cases) come to blows over this topic.

I do know that during that time period, due to the overwhelming demand, that items in the same batch of materials could have different shades because the companies used whatever they could get to make the stuff (again from what I've read, but makes good sense).
