Unless they discovered that the POW was Jewish. You also faired better if you were in the air force (unless the SS got ya 1st). Still, no walk in the park. But the Japanese still were far worse by shere #'s alone, and their "Code of Honor".
What really bites my butt is the very same leaders of the axis powers (for the most part) were put back in charge of things after the war was over, with most never apologizing for, let alone even acknowledging, their wrong doings. Grrr!
