Rubber hose stuck over rough sawn ends of steel line?

The rough ends cut the inner layer of the hose, which then collapses under suction. Use compression/barb fittings on the ends of the line. Or a dull 'wheel' type tubing cutter that will compress the end of the line into a nice rolled edge.

SOoo many guys think they are doing a good thing by adding an electric pump or an extra filter, then push hose over the hacked up end of the steel line. Or repair the steel line at Quadrajet carbs- the line they twisted right off by not using two wrenchs to loosen the line.
