No you don't need your regulator.
Yes that is the diod in the white wire.
Take the wire off the reg. marked Batt. and put it on the Alt. Output Stud.
Take the Red wire from the Alt. Plug and connect it with the Batt. wire on the Alt output stud.
Hook the White wire from the Alt. Plug, and connect it to the Ign.
Hope this is "plain" enough.
