Yes, it is a non-synchro tranny, but it is amazingly silent when going down hills with my foot off the gas pedal ... makes me wonder if the gear is fully engaging or something like that ... I've owned the truck for years but haven't driven it too much ... now I want to drive it but that howl is as bad as ever
