Bio is a good energy trade-off, up to about 15%, after that the lower btu's make it a loser, unless you go to P100 diesel. But it's not all about an equal trade-off in energy, it's about lowering the use of imported oil and cleaner fuels. Our biggest mistake is making ethanol out of corn, you start down a dangerous path when you start converting food to fuel, there have already been tortilla riots in Mexico because of the jump in corm prices. A better way would be to use some of the waste byproducts from sugar beets and certain lessor food "junk beans" such as the beans used to make canola oil. They grow in just about any soil and aren't farmers paid to not grow soybeans right now?
