I leave that part bare so the felt can have a smooth surface to ride on.
Also Be aware the the MP-170 once cataylized and applied, has a 3 day window in which it must be top coated. After 3 days, you must lightly sand and shoot more MP-170. This window is not a problem if you schedule your work so you can follow up with the top coat of MOA or whatever.
