The WC12 is a half ton, sloped hood. Body (Cab) is very much like the powerwagon but there are some diferences. (Doors are the same)

The 3/4 ton WC (never can remeber the numbers) is closer in front clip to the powerwagon.

M37 is a beast but top speed is about 45 unless you change the gears. I would bet this is easest to find one to start on and easiest to find parts for.

3/4 ton WC was used to a large degree in WWII but like the M37 needs taller gears. Top speed 45.

There are many guys on this forum that love the Powerwagon and as I tend to be a Miltary Vehicle kinda guy I will let them address those. My belief is that they are getting to be bigger bucks all the time.

1/2 WC ~ I've got two, a WC10 (Carryall) and a WC22(Open cab pickup) Love em both. The 1/2 ton will run 55MPH so while I have to keep out of way, I can run it on the road pretty well. I have run the Carryall from Phoenix to the San Fransisco area on more than one occasion. It is my truck that "always gets me there and back" They are WWII veterans so they appeal to me for that fact.

All the trucks you mentioned have basically the same engine - a 218 or 230 flathead, straight six. Good engine and Mopar built them up into the 60s in industrial applications so there are many around. Also most engine parts are available at NAPA. Their books don't go back a lot of times but you can get most of the numbers on this websight for many of the mechanics.

So.... Get what appeals to you and the boy. Its your truck. Me, the WC is a great way to go.

Good luck with the project, I hope your son will apprecieate this many years form now. And, as a Vietnam vet I gotta say - Welcome Home and thanks for your service.
