My Buddy Madero was diagnosed May of last year at Cornell University Veterinary Hospital with a condition that will eventually cripple his legs. There is nothing that can be done and they gave him 2 to 3 months to live. We are quickly approaching 1 year of good life. However it is catching up with him. Last week he took a downward spiral. He was having real problems walking and was falling. Its heart breaking as he is a normal Shepherd in every way, except his legs. Right now, he is sitting along side me with his ball to play catch. He cant run so I just toss it to him, he never misses.

I had a Vet appointment late this afternoon fully expecting Euthanasia, I made myself ready for that decision. I will not allow him to suffer however there is no pain involved. After a good exam, my Vet said that "this is not his time, he is not ready for euthanasia yet" What a relief ! He changed doses of his meds, with hope to maintain a great quality of life for as long as possible. Madero is also getting Acupuncture and Chiropractic which we believe is helping him maintain a good quality of life. My Vet says its impossible to predict how long, but there will be a tragic end. So we all had supper tonight and I am going to get a good nights sleep. The stress of the past few days has been hard. Those of you with dogs who are family members know what I am sharing. Madero is woofing at me right now to toss the cold wet ball and I am so happy to be able to toss it to him
