As a power wagon owner, I am in your camp. We run these tires at such a low fraction of their rated performance, that I am not at all worried about unseen deterioration. I do keep a very close eye on weather cracking and balance as indicators of tire health.

As far as tires go, I think that michelins (even in the 6-10 year range) are vastly superior to the ndts and even most of the low volume off-road tires such as interco. Hence the $500 price tag on a new michelin!

And, honestly if you were Michelin and you were thinking about whether or not to recommend replacing tires, wouldn't you error on the side of early replacement and therefore more revenue!
