I would guess you want to bend with the 6" vertical?
45 degree angle would be pretty precise to have a clean bent edge. How much beyond the bend are you thinking you'll have? 4" or 12". Not that it matters, but the shorter that distance you will either have waste or make it much more complicated.
For ease and the ability to use your new welder. I'd notch a 90 degree "vee" in the top/bottom (2" side) and cut the back and then bend/weld. Leaving the front solid.
