Chiropractic care...
I was only 25 when I started having lower back trouble... by the time I was 30 I was wearing a lower back brace most days and had to be very careful about what I picked up and how I did it.
I finally took a chiropractor up on a free exam... then started treatment. The first few weeks sure hurt, but after each visit I found I could move more. After a few months I stopped wearing the brace and had almost no pain.
Today, some ten years on, I'm pain free and, although I have to be careful about how I do it, I can lift heavy things without trouble.
I don't know if they would be able to help you with the arthritis issue, but compared to oxycontin or surgery, it might be worth a try.
