Tim, I don;t know about housing diffs. but I wouldn't think paint would dissolve with the gear oil. I saw the (Re- build your 3rd member) arcticle in the latest Military Vehicles Mag. It looks fairly straight forward and the "special tools" don't look like anything that couldn't be made in the shop. I wondering what to do about my welded nuts on the pinion back up pad bolt? Were your's welded? I'm think I'm gonna tear down a spare 3rd member and give it a try.
