A easy way is to use a inclometer (angle finder). Most good hardware and lumber yards carry them. If you have the 3rd member removed from the axle housing, you can set the incllometer on the machined flat surface on the axle housing ring (where the third member bolts up). If the Third member is installed, you can go to any flat true surface either in the verticle or horizontal plane. Any flat true surface on the engine will work fine. If the Tranny is removed, measure on the machined flat surface of the bell house face. On the T Case, pick a flat surface or you can measure off the brake drum on the rear of the T Case ( NP-200).

Most Inclometers have a magnetic base, be sure it sits verticle so there is no bind on the swing of the arm.
