I am positive it is not a NP540, as I am familiar with the 540, it's appearance, and my over-strained nards when I installed one in my PC500. The NP540 has 4 gears up and 2 down, on the pattern.

This T-98 is not as big, it has a 5spd shift ball, and when you run the gears it feels like 6 total gears can be hit-5+R.

I sent an e-mail to our trans guru DC, waiting his reply.

In size/appearance it is between a 420-435 and 540. The PTO location seems more forward on it. No aluminum. Stamped T98-1?
