I used to have a folder of stories like that. I would save them from various newspapers. One of my favorites was an elderly lady whose husband had served in WWI . It seems he had brought back a live german grenade. When some punks kicked in their downstairs entry door the widow followed her husbands instructions, Pulled the ignitor string and tossed it down the stairwell. The robbers were heavily discouraged. No charges were brought against the widow.
