I have rebuilt quite a few flatheads without using sealant and never had a problem. If I have it lying around I will use it. Or on aluminum enignes absolutely. If you are going to put it on the bolts pull one bolt, put on sealer then torque that bolt then move to the next one and repeat. That way the head is never loose. Steve
