hi roger, when i woked in an automotive machine shop assembling engines we used aviation gasket sealer. it is made by permatex.just brush it on the threads and assemble as usual. most auto parts stores like napa carry it. if you choose not to use this type something should be used for sure, though. good luck, jim.
