I plan to try it. I do have some concerns about warping with it being anchored down so far apart.

I had tons of it (literally hundreds of tons) of hickory trees down from Hurricane Katrina. The nice thing is that I have many, many trees to choose from to get good, straight, knot free boards.

It's so hard my buddy burnt up two band saw blades until he found a good one that would saw it. It's much harder than the white and red oak he sawed.

I've also considered black walnut which is also very hard. It's not native to my area though.
