This accounts for the high profile of the tank, which the tankers hated because it made the tank easier to see and hit. I'm not sure how many of these things got used, but I think it did make it to production.

I think that this engine has to be one of the all-time greatest reverse engineering feats. Bizzare, absurd, and yet somehow attractive (as long as you're not the one who has to keep it running).
