The only part of the 4.0 that I'm using is the fuel injection intake. I'm retaining the 4.2, block, head (some head work) and Borla Headers.
The stroke is 4.145, boring the 4.2 .060 over gives you 282 cu. in. There are several piston options, depending upon the compression ratio you want, and the Comp. Cam, "Extreme 4x4" cam with 111 LSA will provide added torque while retaining a smooth idle.
Too bad you can't change out the carb, but I have a low mileage Weber kit that will fit the 4.2 intake AND the stock air cleaner (1984)if you want to go that way. It is a 1,000% improvement over the stock Carter, but it still needs some work for extreme crawling.
