"jeep owners wouldnt be dropping sbcs in jeeps in droves! the 4.0 is a small engine for a dodge. a 4bt or a 318 dodge is a really good upgrade. "

Sure there are people dropping all types of V8's in to all types of jeeps. If some one is serious about wheeling and repowering , you see LS1/LT1's , and a rare 318 in one. But if you go v8, the cheby stuff lb per lb torque/hp/weight way cheaper and easy parts/performance...that's no secret.

As for the 4.0, I don't like it but its decent on low end torque, read crawling. I drove a modified 01 TJ on 37's, with Sunray Engineered 5150 front 9" and Sunray rear 9 (anyone seen these? sick) with 5.13s, it would catch second gear rubber easy. Drive down the road at 80 safely, too. The 4.0 has 190 hp and 235 ft lbs torque and redlines at 5000+ while the 230 makes 90 hp and 183 ft lbs and might see 3500 rpm (not too many times). I would call that a considerable improvement not to mention the fact it will actually run and start on a hill with fuel injection.
