Been there done that! DON'T mess with the governor. It's an absolute bitch to recalibrate.
Just clean it out and hope it works correctly.

The gasket stack serves as a heat insulator. I was able to re use the stack in mine even though it's 50 years old.

You may find that after your rebuild, it will be quite rich and flooding prone as I did. Seems the recommended float level may not be right with the provided needle/seat.

Just keep lowering the float level until it runs right and won't flood and quit when you blip the gas and it returns to idle. It took me about 3 "take the carb top off and readjust the float" trials. Don't go too lean, or you'll get the EGT too high when you're stormin along at 42 mph!!!
