{{The tranny I have is aluminum.I am thinking of putting it into a 4 wheel drive , but the problem is being that the parking cable goes into the tail shaft housing.I need a short tail shaft housing. or whith some modification can I make the newer housings work }}

Hmmmm.......well....I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is you do have a Torqueflite. From your description this is out of a 1962 to '65 model. Now the bad news. You have to find out if it is for a big block or small block. On the PowerFlite and cast iron Torqueflites, the bell housing came off. The aluminum one is all one piece.

While the 727 has been around for many many years, the '66 up is pretty much different. As you've seen, the park is on the tail shaft. I'm not enough of a tranny man to know if you can swap tailshafts between the '62-65 and later years. Usually, the '66 up is listed as separate. If you need to have the parking brake on the tailshaft, you need the tail piece off a '62 as that was the last year they used that setup.

It might just be easier to use a later transmission as the parts wil be easier to find, it may be setup already for a transfercase, and you might be able to sell your old one to someone who needs it for a restoration. As I said, the '62-65 is different and later ones are different.
