Hi Sean

I am in the same greasy process ..... rebuilding a 251 with a crank from a 265 and trying to salvage the best parts from 3 different engines.

I stumbled on the www.p15-d24.com site ....go to the left margin and scroll down to WIP and click on it.... It will take you to the most detailed picture series of a Work in Progress rebuilding a flat head.

Like everyone says it is a fairly straight forward job that can be done in your garage.... you will need the "assistance" of a machine shop to certain jobs.... hot tank.... machining flat surfaces (if required)
and alignment boring if bearing caps have been changed.... and Magnaflux for invisible cracks.

Don't get sucked in on resleeving a block unless you are determined to retain the original serial number of the block. Better to shop around in wreck yard until you find a good one than pay for the sleeving job.

I got a strong recently rebuilt and running 6 cyl from a kid doing a 440 cu hot rod Dodge pick up... for him the 6cyl was a boat anchor.... from fan blade to tranny..... for $400.

Good luck on you project .......... the personal satisfaction of doing it yourself is priceless.

Bob C.
