When I first got into PW's I had my 230 rebuilt for about $2k and I now feel that I got juiced on the deal. It was balenced and everything but he really hammered me on parts and I even had to supply some of my own. Kanter auto sells a entire rebuild kit for around $500. If I were to do it again (and I have on other trucks) I would do all the dirty work myself (teardown-rebuild) and supply all my own parts. Obviously you will need a machine shop to do some of the work, Pull cam bearings, level the head and block, and any line boring of the cylinders. I would bet that you will have a greater sense of accomplishment by doing most of it yourself. If you do have someone do it inspect their work, make sure you need to have those cylnders sleeved. Good luck!
