There is an article in the latest Peterson's 4 wheel about
do-it-yourself paint and they mention this marine paint that METALMAN
talks about. Sounds good.

I have been using a rust converter from Gemplers on various farm
implements etc. with quite good luck. It is inexpensive, easy to apply
with a brush or roller and quite tough. They say that you don't
necessarily have to paint over it but I recommend that you do. I did a test
on my small dozer. I used this stuff on some rusty parts of the blade and left
it for two years with no additional protection. It held up pretty well.
I have since painted the frame on my '52 Chev. farm truck first with this and then
with Rustoleum over it. Seems pretty good so far. It is exposed to the elements and to
horse manure on a regular basis. No problems yet.

If you are interested, you can look at www.gemplers.com. Go to the Tools and Maintenance
tab and click on "rust converter" at the left.

BTW Gemplers is a pretty good place to find tire handling equipment and other ag stuff.
