I have a 1971 wm300 export model with a smooth tailgate. I have also seen a Fargo wm300 and it too has a smooth tailgate. I think Chrysler made the tailgates smooth in order to save money. I imagine if the truck was a Dodge a Dodge sticker was placed on the back, if it was a Fargo, a Fargo sticker was placed on the back of the tailgate. Also, the later stepsides up until their demise in 1985, had smooth tailgates. I think your tailgate is original.
