Lacking a forest on Frenchman Flat, they did the next best thing - they made one by "planting" trees cut from the nearby mountains with telephone pole hole drillers. Not sure which test series/shot - early 1950's when they were still in "boys and their toys" mode. You see the film clip of the event every once in a while in a movie or on TV, pretty impressive I think.
