Yep, that would be my idea -- instant root cellar. Bury it in a north-facing hillside and you could keep all the spuds and apples you'd ever want good all winter. You'd probably need a double door because the conex box itself would transmit too much heat/cold. I'll still do it if I can ever get my backhoe to run right and I can find a 20' container no farther away than Spokane. I could haul a 20' container in the 12' bed of the deuce if it was chained down good, but there's no way I could get anything bigger down to my place.

I think in the event of fire, I'd just stay in the middle of the meadow, which I keep wetted down in the summer, and if it really got bad, lay down in the creek. In the big fire of 1910 most of the men who survived did so by laying in the creek with wet blankets over themselves. Nobody died of smoke inhalation or burns laying in a creek. One got killed by a tree that fell on him. A lot of men died trying to hide in cabins or making a run for it through the flames. One bunch hid in a root cellar and they all got burned so bad the meat fell of their bones when they tried to pick them up to give them a proper burial. Even of the Pulaski crew that hid in a mine tunnel not all made it and those who did survive were in terrible shape. When the fire came through, they all passed out for lack of air. A bunch that hid in another mine tunnel also died. Personally, if a fire comes at me and I can't get away, I'll take my chances in a wet meadow or gravel bar by the creek where I can go and lay down in the creek if I have to, rather than trying to survive in any kind of hole in the ground.
