In Mineral County Montana, just over the hill from me, the County won't take over any more roads. If somebody puts in a new subdivision, the property owners have to form a homeowners association or some other way to do the plowing and grading. There's no industry except for Lincoln's and a couple of pole mills, and yet people keep building homes out in the woods. The taxes aren't enough to pay for grading and plowing and if they were, everybody would really squawk, so unless the county took over your road prior to the new rule, which I think was 10 years or so ago, you're on your own. Not sure what they do if you have a kid in school, maybe just make him walk to the plowed road?
