Norm is correct, lead additives are not legal anymore but there are some additives that in my experience work very well. The last one I used is unfortunately no longer available. If you do a littel research on the various kinds of additives you will find one that actually works. I don't have a flathead right on the road right now so I haven't looked into it. As far as the seats go in 230s they are very hard and I have rebuilt MANY flatheads and never had to replace the seats. the worst ones I saw were slightly pitted on an engine that had been run 20 degrees out of time for thousands of miles. they cleaned up very easily when I did the valve job. My experience shows me that they are hard enough. Stock seats and the stelite valves you referred to would eliminate the need for additives. Fuel in the 30s and 40s was LOW octane and had less lead than later on. So the Chrysler engines were suited for low or no lead out of the box.
