How to remove pilot bushing? plan B?

I've been trying to get a pilot bushing out of the crankshaft using the grease-hydraulic method but it won't budge. It's a 3/4" bore and I found a rod that was a good fit in the unworn part of the bushing. I packed the hole full of grease and pounded away on the shaft with a 3-lb hammer and a pretty good swing. It won't move at all. I have to get it out, so now I'm thinking it's time for plan B -- drill it out as far as I can without nicking the flywheel, and then try to cut what's left loose with a cold chisel. I thought about screwing a big lag screw into it and pulling on it, but it seems like that would just wedge it tighter into the hole.

Any other good ideas? Anybody tried drilling one out? It appears to be bronze. I suppose the army had some special tool for removing them.
