If you paint them with epoxy, it will wear off between the leafs as they move. No paint can stand that force of the leaf ends moving. Eventually you will get rust.

Betts Spring, in San Leandro refused my request for teflon on my Carryall springs. They will not build springs for off road trucks with teflon. They claim through experience that the teflon so reduces friction that the spring can over flex. The spring design requires the friction of the leafs rubbing to control extension. Betts Spring will build springs with teflon for cars etc that dont go off road. Betts Spring has been in the spring business since the late 1800's, I trust their judgement.
