I went to the county fair this fall and was astounded to see that all the kids that entered anything in the fair (craft projects, cookies, vegetables, art) got ribbons. Some got red ribbons and some got blue ribbons, but everybody got a ribbon. Why to they even bother? When I was a kid, in any given contest, there was one 1st prize, and maybe a 2nd prize and a 3rd prize, but everybody else was a loser. If you wanted to cry about losing, you could go ahead and cry, but that's life in the big city.
