I'm not familiar with any Dodge CTD's that have an air compressor running all the time. I guess an after market item like air activated ARB lockers might involve having a full time air compressor.

Are you saying some folks have added an air compressor just to activate the exhaust brake? That's interesting when you consider that the CTD has a vacuum pump to provide the vacuum that works the exhaust brake.

Larger trucks have a compression type engine brake that uses the engine compression to retard speed, but that is totally different from an exhaust brake.

We have a great many 18 wheel dump trucks in our area because of a lot of new construction. Regettably, some of these short haul dump truck drivers do not have the same standards of courtesy as most over the road, long haul, big rig drivers. I guess that, when I was young, I might have found some enjoyment in coming up next to an old lady in a car and hitting my compression brake and watching her panic.

I'm on our City Council and when we were considering an ordinance banning engine brakes as a noise issue, I pushed for wording that prohibited compression braking common on big rigs but did not include exhaust brakes which are very common on pickups around here. Exhaust brakes do not have a significant noise level.
