At the last VPW rally in Iowa, Dave Butlers son Jens gave a demonstration on riviting. Jens has blacksmithing experience. If I recall correctly, he attached a piece of round steel stock with a hollowed out end to an air hammer. He used this to create the rounded end on a hot rivit he heated up to cherry red in a hollowed out soft fire brick.
