Sounds like somebody swapped cabs. Probably kept the other number plate as a souvenier.

Seven out of the eight I've bought and registered in Ca. had the number in the usual place. I scrapped #8, so I never looked anyhow. I would look harder at the ouside of the frame rail, near left front shock. Scrape off the paint. I'll assume that number suits the papers. Have the new owner remove the plate on the cab, it would only confuse the mental midgets that work at the DMV.

No smog, no equipment, no glass, lights, or brakes inspections in California. Just clerks whose alternative for income would be the welfare line.

But he will need to get it weighed, unless he does some kind of 'classic' registration.
