i worked for over 8 years at an engine rebuild shop. you would not believe the things we saw. i agree 100% with what paul said. run the engine until warmup then wait 15 min and change the oil and filter.run for a few seconds to bring up oil pressure then shut down.the acids in old oil will etch the metals over a long period of time.you will have more trouble with stuck valves /varnished gas than bad oil though.but that's a different procedure all together.
