I have been either in the air or on the road lately. If not doing that I have been working very long days at my new job.

Thanksgiving Trip to Reno.

Who is going to give a DAMM about my trip to Reno last week!! Bear with me it was a one in a life time experience.

We left Tuesday afternoon driving our 1990 Suburban with 226K miles on it. We had just finished a trip the previous Friday where the Service Engine Soon light flashed on twice for a couple of seconds. I checked it no error codes and it was running great even at 85 MPH (I did not say that)On Tuesday, we get south of Portland and stop for dinner and gas. I start the truck and it runs like crap and dies (Interesting). I start it again and it runs great. We head doen I5 but the Service Engine Soon flashes on for a second or two. We get 70 miles down the road and it starts running like crap for 15 seconds then is fine. A few minutes later it starts running like crap again and I end up on the shoulder tring to go 5MPH to get to the next exit. Didn't work the Chevy decides to play FORD (Found On Road Dead). This has never happened ever with the Suburban. It is 10:45 PM and raining cats and dogs. The wife says I am not going to complain about the AAA bill I just Paid. We get towed to Cottage Grove, OR to a hotel. The tow company says it will retow us to a shop the next morning.

Wednesday:
We get the towing company out and they have the Suburban on the truck and I said I have no clue where to take it as I had called several shops with no luck (It is the day before Thanksgiving). I would have tried to fix it as I thought it was the fuel filter but it was raining cats and dogs still. 10 minutes later he has a shop and were are on the way.

On the way the driver says the shop is run by a very respected mechanic and has been around for quite awhile. But several years back he had an accident and he is now totally bind. OK I said I need to get on the road (this could be interesting).

BLIND Mechanic.
I get the Suburban in his shop. Very nice guy with 30+ years experience. He has 1 mechanic in the garage with him. He did all the paperwork on a computer. Then he gets out to the shop and starts work. He has a window between the shop and the waiting area. It was really interesting to watch him work. No he did not do it all but he was in there doing more than his fair share. It ended up being the fuel pump. They had to drop the tank with 33 gallons of gas in it. He was in there disconecting the hoses and removing the skid plate and unbolting the tank. I did help them in dropping the tank to the ground. The other guy replaces the pump and they both put it back together. I was in the shop watching him work as they were putting it back together. Blind or not he, was doing the job very well and efficiently and it was really facinating to watch him work. By the way he does not use a cane to get around the shop.

This is one Blind Mechanic that I will have no problems going back to. He does excellent work, is is known to be very honest, what else could I ask for in my situation.

One incident that happened there is kind of interesting. I was standing in a door talking to his helper (Ryan)and the mechanic lightly bumps into me from the rear as he is walking. He asked if it was Ryan and I said no it was me but he knew that Ryan I were talking. He said sorry and I said no problem at all. He then tells me an interesting stoory. He was in a different shop about a year ago and lightly bumped into a customer. The customer yells at him "What, are you blind or something?" He responded "Yes, as a matter of fact, I am totally blind". There was total silence in the shop as the customer was trying to dislodge 2 feet that were firmly planted very deeply in his mouth. The blind mechanic simply walked away.
