Spam links to dead sites

I'm noticing lately that a lot more of the sites listed in the "phishing" spams and others are dead (404) when I try to check them out. That's actually a good sign. It means that the ISP and hosts for these sites are shutting them down as soon as they find out they're been used for spam or fraud.

I tend to think we're at the stage with email fraud like we were with investment frauds 100 years ago. Nowadays nobody would buy fake patents or fake stocks or the "deed" to the Brooklyn Bridge, but 100 years ago people were gullible enough to fall for that stuff. Within a few more years, Americans will quit responding to Nigerian frauds, foreign shipping refund frauds, phishing scams, and the like. Unfortunately we'll still be getting deluged with mail-order viagra/cialis/vicodin ads, because big American companies are making money off of that.
