Thanks for all the input on this thread. I only started this question because I read in Dan Shockley's Ebay ad for the '46 firetruck his quote "8700# GWR which means that it has the 4.89 gear ratio!".
I guess having the 8700# data plate does not automatically mean the vehicle has 4.89 gears as stated. Although, it may have them. Thanks, Steve
